Interviewing is a huge part of police work, whether it's out on the field asking eye-witnesses questions, or it's in a room trying to get someone to confess or give away information to help solve a case.
Detecting lies is also part of communication; being able to interpret a person's communication will help a police officer know whether they are lying, what their motives are etc.
Cops need to have good interpersonal, verbal and non-verbal communication skills do succeed.
