We teach and provide teens with information to be healthy, but most often the parents still control thier diet and are not setting good examples for our children. So when we provide them with this information they also need to know how to communicate this to thier parents in a way that the parents will take them seriously.
volunteer your services and offer to talk to the family as a whole. A lot of parents will usually respect a teen's decision to try and be healthier, but empower the teens to tell their parents that they would like the whole family to join in. Give them sheets to bring home or books to recommend. Some healthy recipes for them to try out. Also empower the teen to try to state in a positive way they want to make healthier choices. I hope this makes sense: tell them to try to not "insult" their parents for making poor or sometimes uneducated food choices. So, try to steer them from saying things like "I can never eat here! The food is so bad for you!" and other statements of that nature. Parents will just get defensive as they often do when arguing with their teens.
