How can I communicate with deaf people effectively???

I work as a supervisor in a manufacturing factory. I always have to pass on information and give instructions to the workers as well as train them. On the other hand they have to report their job to me in paper form and in speech. Inside the factory, there are a lot of deaf workers. I find a difficulty to communicate with them effectively. Of course I don't know sign language. Some of them are very low educated or even never attend to any former school. They cannot understand any kind of language even their own mother tongue. Thus I can't even write those information on a piece of paper to let them know my notices. I never look down on them or refuse to communicate with them. May be some of them feel inferior about themselves, they refuse to communicate and cooperate with me. I want to treat them friendly instead of using my authority to force them doing the jobs. Can anybody tell me how to communicate with those deaf workers effectively?

learn sign language or make sure you look at them when talking so they can read your lips

well become freindly act and look like your in a good mood at least around them have them think you do not despise them or anything bad and you could communicate with pictures there are some sites that have pictures for deaf people im not aware of any of the names but you could always find some random pictures and modify it a little im not sure what else you could do thats the only idea i would have unless you want to teach them sign language or finger spelling

Helen Keller could figure this one out, use pictures, I worked at a school where the children are so low functioning they can't be taught signing or reading, Make flash cards by cutting out pictures paste them on a 3 by 5 cards you can laminate them, then punch holes at one end, slip a ring through the holes, they can wear them on their belt. You can add on more pictures. They have learned some form of communication within their lifetime, you as the supervisor should also learn to sign.Start off with the alphabet. Place a SIGNING ALPHABET CHART in the work place,(Hang it in the lunchroom) that way everyone can learn to finger spell. The other thing is a picture voice box ( this is very expensive tool) you push the picture and it will talk to you. This is about $4.000 Remember just as hard as it is to understand them, it's 10 times harder to understand you!!!!

The short answer is to learn sign language. It's not that difficult to get the basics. And you'll obviously get a lot of practice. Plus–when these workers see you are learning, they will gain a lot of respect for you–which will make communication easier in and of itself.

Many local colleges (including community colleges) offer courses. if that's not the best option for you, get in touch with some local organizations that work with the deaf–they'll be able to put you in touch with a sign language program.

Since this is a business expense, any cost to you will be tax-deductible. I'd also check with your employer. If they are willing to hire deaf workers, they may be willing to pay all or part of the expense of sign language classes for you.

well i dont know for sure what you can do. is there one of them that seems to be a leader that you could manage to communicate with,
i am thinking they sort of stick together as a group i dont know
you must be a very nice guy this sounds like one tough task
i think i would seek out one of them to be a go between
i figure that asl users often develop there own signs that is a group of friends or what not will alter or come up with a sort of slang sign language. now your bunch dont know sign but they must have developed some jestures that they use to commicate with one another. so i figure if you can communicate with just one of them well or with less trouble then that guy would be able to more or less translate what you have said,
further to that you may find that you and them could develop a sort of sign langauge yourselfs . make a certain jesture for one routine task and be consistant in your use of it and watch them see what jestures they are using to say something that would be
related to work and applies to the process, even if you just start with a single sign or jesture, you all walk to one machine and you or one of them comes up with a sign for that one and together you all repeat it until you all remember that machine A is signed by making a tee pee shape with your arms .
and process what ever fill the bins with more wood is known as sign touch your knee. i am thinking this is a factory that has very repeatative work and the various tasks you have to do there are the same day after day, so that is a benifit, start slow use simple jestures one sign for one task the task of going to the other end of the factory and getting a bin full of wood if that is one that happens at least once a day every day come up with one sign jesture for that task ,
and again look to see if there is one guy that can sort of translate the more complex things to the others.
that and sir i think i just might be writting an answer to a man who at least has at least the temperment of a saint .
keep it up i am sure god is watching this one real carefully you have it tough they have it tougher and all of you are in for a big reward at the end of this life its like your on the all star team there wow

Contact The Division of The Deaf in your state. Sometimes, in addition to supplying you with an intern. The Deaf have a culture all their own and it is difficult to penetrate without assistance. Give some thought to learning the basics of American Sign Language with a beginner's course. This can be done at the workplace and there is no cost to you or your company. Many of the interns stay on site for the entire workday.

    the first thing is to learn sign language , if you cannot for time or different reasons ,check within your employees to see if anyone does know how to use sign language ,that is what we used to do in my place of employment ……it is very easy to learn ;
here is a page with the basic sign language ,learn it first , you would be very surprised at the reaction of the non-speaking to you :-http://www.funbrain.com/funbrain/cgi-bin/st.cgi?A1=s&A15=signs&A2=0&Submit=Show+Me+The+Signs%21))

they will make an effort as well if you show some interest ……
take a couple of classes in a community near you ..
with time and patience you will learn some basics signs and most deaf people will gladly help you on a every day routine :-)
start by using your hands to explain yourself …………nothing to it ………..:-))
