One of the greatest problems of morale in a department stems from lack of communication. Workers need to feel they are part of the organization and need to know what developments and changes are occuring. How can this be accomplished?
We have the same situation in my former organization, I have initiated a communication circle. Every first working day of the week, I meet all my department managers and supervisors and inform them on the progress of each department and section as well as status of new projects and future company plans to include changes in policy etc., I then informed them what is expected of them. Then once a month, I meet with all the staff of a department, from the manager to the lowest rank and file, this I keep in a very informal way. This is also the time that employees under me can ventilate their grievances.
I congratulate them on certain jobs that are outstanding and coach and teach them if there are some failures or below par progress on certain projects, but it must always be spoken in general terms without pinpointing a single employee.
I also installed a huge computer monitor where every one can see production status, project status, and any other changes in policies, etc. This is done like a tv. commercial
by our MIS department.
My Division has the highest morale in the whole organization and employees attitude changed that the effect was, they worked as if they owned the company. By the way, I handled all manufacturing support department and sections.
Good luck

What type of communication barriers are we talking about. Some ideas include
- use up-to-date technology
- hire people that can speak a certain language or have a policy that they need to speak a certain language
- reduce the level of noise
- have training for communication purposes for staff or have a day where they learn about teamwork and communication
- have a manual for procedures conserning communication
- have a communication officer/manager/assistant

By far, the best communication I have used in inter office would be e-mail. Sending lots of them. It gives people the chance to update themselfs on their own terms …. and is read by all (usually) – very effective.
Hope this helps!

It will never happen because the upper management make way more than the lowly wage workers, and why would they care as long as they make millions, and on that point other co workers have nothing better to do than spread rumors and stick there noses in other peoples business, when they cant even control there own lives.
