Communication in the Work Place for Air Traffic Controllers
Posted by: | Comments
Believe it or not many business executives do not feel that communication in the work place is an important thing to consider or concentrate on in their businesses. However, for these executives who do not believe that workplace communication adds the incredible synergy and can provide for teamwork, safety, efficiency and advancement of the Company\’s objectives I submit to you that if you\’ll consider aircraft controllers and their environment perhaps you will reconsider your thoughts.
Imagine a set of aircraft controllers who had poor workplace communication skills amongst them. Can you imagine the turmoil and possible accidents or near misses this could cause in air transportation around an airport?
Although you may not consider the day-to-day operations in your office as important as that of aircraft are controllers, you must remember that it is your duty and responsibility that each employee remain efficient. Every employee must be efficient for the Company to run like a Swiss watch. Currently there are many new innovations for air traffic controllers to do their job even better.
In fact air traffic controllers these days are trained with virtual reality systems to hone their skills. Imagine if you will the similar thing in your business? Practicing work place communication to improve the efficiency of each and every one of your team members in your company makes a lot of sense? How well would your company run if you did that? Please consider this in 2006.

Workplace Communication?
Posted by: | CommentsOne of the greatest problems of morale in a department stems from lack of communication. Workers need to feel they are part of the organization and need to know what developments and changes are occuring. How can this be accomplished?
We have the same situation in my former organization, I have initiated a communication circle. Every first working day of the week, I meet all my department managers and supervisors and inform them on the progress of each department and section as well as status of new projects and future company plans to include changes in policy etc., I then informed them what is expected of them. Then once a month, I meet with all the staff of a department, from the manager to the lowest rank and file, this I keep in a very informal way. This is also the time that employees under me can ventilate their grievances.
I congratulate them on certain jobs that are outstanding and coach and teach them if there are some failures or below par progress on certain projects, but it must always be spoken in general terms without pinpointing a single employee.
I also installed a huge computer monitor where every one can see production status, project status, and any other changes in policies, etc. This is done like a tv. commercial
by our MIS department.
My Division has the highest morale in the whole organization and employees attitude changed that the effect was, they worked as if they owned the company. By the way, I handled all manufacturing support department and sections.
Good luck

The Art of Focused Conversation 100 Ways to Access Group Wisdom in the Workplace
Posted by: | Comments
This book has served me so well in my new job. I can\’t tell you how many times I have pulled the book off the shelf to get some direction in creating my own questions. It has been a great asset in helping me have meaningful and directed conversations at a critical time in my new job. And it has saved me precious time. – Great book ?Marlene Lockwood, Group Leader, St. Helen\’s Hospital, Deer Park, California Communication within many organizations has been reduced to email, electronic file transfer, and hasty sound bytes at hurried meetings. More and more, people appear to have forgotten the value of wisdom gained by ordinary conversations. But, at different times in history, conversation has been regarded as an art form – a crucial component of human relations. Conversation has the power to solve a problem, heal a wound, generate commitment, bond a team, generate new options, or build a vision. Conversations can shift working patterns, build friendships, create focus and energy, cement resolve. The Art of Focused Conversation convincingly restores this most human of attributes to prime place within businesses and organizations, and demonstrates what can be accomplished through the medium of focused conversation. The first Part describes the theory and background of the conversation method, which has been effectively used for group consensus making in: 1) problem solving; 2) troubleshooting; 3) coaching; 4) research and 5) interpretation of data. It also discusses how to prepare a conversation, how to lead a conversation, and what the common mistakes are. Part two then provides 100 sample conversations designed for use in many different situations, including: 1)reviewing and evaluating; 2) preparation and planning; 3) coaching, and mentoring; 4) data and media interpretation; 5) decision making; 6) managing and supervising; and 7) personal reflection and group celebrations. Developed, tested, and extensively used by professionals in the field of organizational
